I asked authors to rate their experience with their publisher on a scale from 1 terrible to 10 amazing. Large house average experience: 7. Authors at houses without advances reported a slightly lower average experience.

What are they writing? Well, everything! The characters in these books write lists, letters, zines, diaries, poetry, even obituaries. As a teen who was obsessed with writing those are just some of my teenage diaries in that picture over there , I always loved finding characters in books who wrote.
